Center for Accessible Material Production

This is where Braille and large print materials are produced for both Siloe Primary and the St Francis Academy. The Centre was started in 2009 with donations from the Polish government. ADuxbury Braille Translator is used to translate from print to Braille. Embossing is done with OnViewPlus Tiger embosser and a Xerox machine is used to produce large print.

The following materials are prepared at the Centre:

  • exam papers, tests and worksheets in Braille and large print
  • Braille books for the library
  • school books in Braille for St Francis Catholic Academy

The brailling process can be divided into the following three parts, and is a labour intensive process:

  • datacapturing and translation
  • proofreading and corrections
  • production (embossing)
